Brontosaurus Dino Dossier
Common Name: Brontosaurus
Species: Brontosaurus Iazarus
Time: Late Creataceous
This gigantic dinosaur is commonly found in the southeast region of the map. The Brontosaurus is not an aggressive dinosaur, but it has the capability to deal lots of damage when provoked. The Brontosaurus usually travels alone or in a very small group. The Brontosaurus has a lot of health points, so taking it down is no easy feat. I recommend bringing a lot of ranged weapons or a high level hunting dinosaur along to make the fight easier. If you are newer to the game and have no progressed far, I suggest staying away as the Brontosaurus can easily kill a low leveled character in one or two hits.
In order to ride this gigantic beast, you must craft the Bronto Saddle which requires level 55 to be unlocked. The Brontosaurus has two basic attacks in its arsenal. The first of which is a tail swipe. The tail swipe does the most damage and actually flings you if hit in the direction the tail is going. Be very cautious of that tail when trying to take it down. The second attack it can do is stomp. If you get too close to the Brontosaurus, it can try and stomp on you. Although this does not do as much damage as the tail swipe, the stomp can still be deadly to lower leveled characters.
Killing a Brontosaurus can yield one of four drops. It can either drop raw meat, raw prime meat, hide, or a sauropod vertebra. The vertebra is valuable as you can use it to summon the Broodmother boss. Everything else is standard as drops go.
Base Stats: At level one, the Brontosaurus has 1850 health, 240 stamina, 150 oxygen, 10,000 food, 900 weight, 60^2 melee damage, 100% movement speed, and 1900 torpor. Fighting a high leveled Brontosaurus truly is no easy feat. Encountering a level 50 Bronto can take hours to take down and even longer to tame. For example, it takes 316 hits with a wooden club to knock the Bronto out cold. This number increases as the level of the Bronto increases. The fastest way to knock one down is to use Tranquilizer Darts. It would take 23 Tranq darts to take down a level 50 Bronto.
What is the Bronto Useful for? The Bronto is useful for being a good tank first of all. The high amount of health gives it that advantage when trying to fight other dinosaurs. It also does very high splash damage. That is damage that is done to multiple enemies. It can also gather materials for you. Set the Bronto to attack near plants, it will gather all of the plants for you.
Wild: Among the largest creatures I’ve seen on the island, Brontosaurus lazarus is larger than any sauropod I’ve read about. In fact, the dinosaur is so massive that it ignores most other creatures.
Domesticated: Because of how docile it is, Brontosaurus makes the ideal pack-animal. Peaceful tribes use it to carry incredible quantities of resources, while warring tribes use it to mobilize their army. Unfortunately, its enormity means that most attempts to tame Brontosaurs can take longer than almost any other creature on the island
Known Information: I’ve seen a pack of Raptors tear apart smaller Dinosaurs while Brontosaurus continues eating, seemingly oblivious to the hunting pack. The Brontosaurus is extremely protective of its eggs and will attack if provoked. However, some may think this is an Apatosaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Argentinosaurus, or other sauropod – but this is a strange island and I’m the one doing the research. I’m convinced that this genus is Brontosaurus and no one can tell me otherwise. My study, my rules
