Megalodon Dino Dossier
Common Name: Megalodon
Species: Carcharodon ultramegalodon
The Megalodon will often isolate itself to the deeper waters unless they are attacking prey. The Megalodon is aggressive and can easily swim faster than a player. Due to its aggressive nature, the Megalodon will often attack a player. Megalodon’s can agro a player from a long distance, so it is not uncommon for a group of Megalodons to attack a player suddenly. Killing a Megalodon will yield Raw Meat, Raw Prime Meat, and a Megalodon Tooth. A Megalodon Tooth’s only use is for the summoning of the Broodmother. The Megalodon can be commonly found in the northeast most ocean.
Taming a Megalodon can be a dangerous task. I recommend luring some Megalodon’s into shallow water and using a tranquilizer dart. Bows cannot be fired underwater so this gives them a disadvantage. At level 50, it would take 12 tranquilizer darts to knock out a Megalodon. I recommend building a platform above the water that you can use to fire into the water to knock out the Megalodons.
Another method to tame one is to chum the waters. Chumming the waters means killing a smaller fish and holding it while on the beach to try and lure them to more shallow waters. This will attract all Megalodons to the area. Another way to tame them is to use a scorpion due to their ability to swim. Ride the scorpion into the waters and sting the shark and dodge the Megalodon attacks. The Megalodons are useful for their ability to swim at a fast rate and their massive amount of damage. This combination makes them very deadly in the waters. Megalodon can also farm Raw Meat fairly easily from other fish in the ocean.
Megalodons are one of the only fish in the sea to attack each other. It is not uncommon to see a bunch of Megalodons fighting each other. You can use this to your advantage if you are trying to farm meat or trying to get an easier knock out. Megalodons can spawn in almost every water of the outer sea, but not in any rivers. Megalodons can be brought to rivers though by luring them there.
Megalodons are also one of the only dinosaurs that cannot be tracked by a Transponder Node. In order to house one, keep in mind that Megalodons do not fit through the normal dinosaur gateway. You will need a larger gateway to house them. In order to mount one, you will need a Megalodon Saddle which is unlocked at level 45. It costs 18 Engram Points to craft a Megalodon Saddle. Make sure when you do ride one that you keep an eye on your oxygen gauge so you do not drown in the waters!
Wild: Were it not restricted to the waters, Carcharodon ultramegalodon might be the most dangerous creature on the island.
Domesticated: If someone is able to tame this beast, that person would be the undisputed ruler of the oceans around the island and would have access to resources no one can safely find!
Known Information: As powerful and dangerous as the Tyrannosaurus is on land, Megalodon is its equal in the water. In addition, it has a speed advantage over any non-aquatic creature. Megalodons need large quantities of food to sustain themselves, so they attack most creatures immediately on sight. Smaller fish are the sole exception I’ve seen; I believe this is because they cost more energy for Megalodons to catch than they would gain.
